About Us
The two blocks of Castelnau Mansions, comprising fifty flats in all, were built in 1898 in North Barnes, London, close to Hammersmith Bridge. They are fine examples of the Edwardian redbrick mansion-flat style. Many of these were built in London for well-to-do families between 1890 and 1914. The size of the flats, their gardens, and their lovely situation mean that the Mansions are still very largely lived in by the people who own them.
In 2003, a majority of the resident leaseholders succeeded in buying the Mansions freehold from the property company in to whose hands it had fallen, and they formed a company, Castelnau Mansions Ltd (CML), to own the freehold, that is the outright and perpetual ownership of the buildings and grounds. All leaseholders have now bought their 999-year lease. The Mansions are managed by CML for the benefit of all leaseholders and residents, on a non-profit basis, through an elected board of directors.
